29th July 2021 – (Bangkok) Thailand on Thursday reported 17,669 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 165 more fatalities, both setting all-time high records since the start of the pandemic.
The new numbers took the country’s caseload and deaths to 561,030 and 4,562 respectively, according to the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
Nearly a quarter of the new infections were recorded in Bangkok, which has been the epicenter of the long-lasting outbreak since April when the latest wave of the coronavirus hit the capital.
As of Wednesday, Thailand has administered around 16.6 million doses of vaccine, with over 3.7 million of its nearly 70 million population having been fully vaccinated.
The World Health Organization Thailand office said on Thursday that vaccination alone is not sufficient to fight COVID-19 and its variants, urging citizens to apply all effective measures like using masks, social distancing and avoiding crowds.
