15th January 2025 – (Bangkok) A 21-year-old affluent Chinese woman, Wu Jiaqi, who is believed to have undergone plastic surgery on her face, has been rescued following her abduction while travelling in Thailand.

Wu, from Wuxi in Jiangsu province, went missing on 5th January after travelling to Bangkok with a friend she had known for less than a year. The pair did not inform their parents of their travel plans. After arriving in Bangkok, Wu shared her location with her mother, who warned her against travelling to Myanmar. However, by that afternoon, she had vanished.

Her father, Wu Weidong, reported her disappearance to Thai authorities. Police discovered that Wu had checked out of her hotel on 7th January and was seen getting into a black vehicle. On 10th January, authorities apprehended the driver, who revealed that Wu had been transported to Myanmar’s Myawaddy region, although the specific location of her captivity remained unclear.

Through coordinated efforts between Chinese and Thai authorities, Wu was eventually located and rescued from a scam operation area linked to a recent case involving actor Wang Xing, who had also been abducted in Thailand.

Upon his return to Shanghai on 14th January, Wu Weidong expressed his profound gratitude to the Chinese government, the Thai authorities, and the media for their assistance in the rescue. He also confirmed that he had withdrawn his report to the local Bangkok police.
