18th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu visited the eastern section of the harbourfront boardwalk in North Point on Saturday, ahead of its public opening on 26th January. The newly constructed walkway, which is part of the Island Eastern Corridor, spans 2.2 kilometres and is divided into western and eastern sections.
The western section, approximately 0.7 kilometres long, extends from Oil Street to Tong Shui Road, while the eastern section, measuring around 1.1 kilometres, runs from Tin Chiu Street to Hoi Yu Street. These two segments will be interconnected by the existing North Point Promenade.
Lee noted that the new boardwalk is expected to become a popular destination for residents and visitors alike, particularly for those seeking picturesque views. He expressed optimism that the walkway will attract individuals interested in jogging, cycling, and leisurely strolls, enhancing the outdoor experience along the waterfront.
The Development Bureau has announced that the stretch from Fortress Hill to North Point will be open to the public by the Lunar New Year, with the section between North Point and Quarry Bay scheduled for phased openings in the latter half of the year. Once the entire project is completed, a continuous 13-kilometre promenade will connect Kennedy Town in the west to Shau Kei Wan in the east of Hong Kong Island.
During his visit, Lee shared on social media that he had invited some youngsters to join him for a jog along the boardwalk. He emphasised the unique experience of exercising in such a scenic location, highlighting the overhead East Corridor, which provides shade from direct sunlight.
