26th July 2021 – (Tokyo) A partnership of young and old, 19-year-old Lin Yun-ju and 29-year-old Cheng I-ching, claimed a bronze medal for Chinese Taipei in the table tennis mixed doubles event at Tokyo 2020 on Monday.
The Chinese Taipei pair, whose previous best results came in 2019 when they were crowned in both the Hong Kong and the China Open, took just 38 minutes to beat Emmanuel Lebesson and Yuan Jianan of France 11-8, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6.
This is the fourth medal pocketed by Chinese Taipei at these Games.
Lin and Cheng knocked out Indian pair Kamal Achanta and Manika Batra and Lee Sang-su and Jeon Ji-hee of South Korea to make the semifinals, where they lost to Jun Mizutani and Mima Ito of Japan.
