Eighteen-year-old Chinese woman scammed of HK$9.2 million by fraudsters posing as law enforcement

17th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Authorities have received a report from an eighteen-year-old woman from mainland China, who claims to have fallen victim to a sophisticated scam. On 27th November of last year, she received a phone call from individuals claiming to be law enforcement officers. They accused her of being involved in a money laundering case and demanded that she transfer approximately HK$9.2 million to three different bank accounts for investigation purposes.

After the transaction, the victim lost contact with the callers and subsequently suspected that she had been deceived. Following her report, an initial investigation was launched, categorising the case as “obtaining property by deception.” As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
