3rd August 2021 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong Customs conducted a targeted operation in July to combat cross-boundary counterfeiting activities involving goods destined for the United States. About 60,000 items of suspected counterfeit goods with an estimated market value of about HK$3.2 million were seized.
Customs took the targeted enforcement action for one month and stepped up inspections, especially against suspicious air consignments destined for the United States.
During the operation, about 60,000 suspected counterfeit goods including mobile phones and accessories, watches, handbags, shoes and clothing were seized.
Hong Kong Customs will continue to work closely with overseas law enforcement agencies to combat cross-boundary counterfeiting activities through intelligence exchanges and joint enforcement actions.
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, any person who imports or exports any goods with any forged trademark commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of HK$500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
