The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has declared a public holiday on Monday to mourn the death of former mayor PL Singh.

Singh, who passed away on Sunday night at the age of 88 in Chaksibari, was elected as Kathmandu's mayor in 1992, representing the Nepali Congress. He was also a long-time aide to Ganeshman Singh, known as the Iron Man of Nepal.

The metropolis recognised Singh’s significant contributions during his tenure as mayor and his dedication to social service. Offices under the city’s jurisdiction, except essential services, will remain closed on Monday.
