27th July 2021 – (Hong Kong) At about 10pm last night (26th), officers from Marine West Division were conducting an anti-smuggling patrol in the sea off Lung Kwu Tan, Tuen Mun. At that time, they spotted a speedboat carrying 5 people and suspected it was smuggling goods. During the period, marine police signalled the speedboat to stop, but the other party tried to speed up the escape, and the marine police then launched a pursuit.
The 5 people on board then abandoned the boat and jumped into the sea to escape arrest. 4 of them were immediately rescued by the marine police. They were arrested on suspicion of illegal entry and were taken back to the Tai Lam Chung Marine Police Base for detention and investigation. Another one was missing. The search and rescue operations continued, and Government Flying Service helicopters also dispatched to assist in the search. The speedboat involved was then towed to the Lung Kwu Tan beach.
