16th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) In anticipation of heightened foot traffic leading up to the Lunar New Year, the Hong Kong Police have announced a series of crowd safety management measures and special traffic arrangements for the Mong Kok Flower Market area from 20th January to 29th January. These initiatives are designed to ensure public safety and maintain smooth traffic flow during this busy period.
With a significant influx of visitors expected, police will enforce crowd management protocols across key streets, including Flower Market Road, Yuen Ngai Street, Yuen Po Street, and adjacent thoroughfares such as Prince Edward Road West Service Road and Sai Yee Street. Authorities are urging the public to exercise patience and comply with on-site police instructions.
From 8am on 20th January until 8am on 29th January, several roads will be closed to all vehicles except those with permits. The closures will include Flower Market Road, Yuen Ngai Street, Yuen Po Street, and Prince Edward Road West Service Road, particularly between Sai Yee Street and Yuen Po Street. During this time, westbound traffic on Prince Edward Road West will be prohibited from turning right onto Sai Yee Street, with affected vehicles redirected via Tung Choi Street and Boundary Street. Additionally, U-turns near Nathan Road will be disallowed.
Depending on crowd and traffic conditions, further road closures may be implemented, including Sai Yee Street from Prince Edward Road West Service Road to Boundary Street, Fa Yuen Street from Prince Edward Road West Service Road to Boundary Street, and Playing Field Road from Tung Choi Street to Sai Yee Street.
To facilitate these arrangements, parking will be suspended in several areas, including metered parking on Fa Yuen Street and Tung Choi Street, as well as motorcycle parking near Playing Field Road. Disabled parking spaces on Fa Yuen Street and Playing Field Road will also be affected. Authorities will tow any vehicles parked illegally during this period without prior notice, and offenders may face multiple fines.
